After all, you’re not buying a box of chocolates, but a jewel with a story to tell, and that's worth slowing down for. Also, we like to be at our best when you arrive: hair brushed and smelling like roses. Call us old-fashioned, but that's another excellent reason we don't do walk-ins. So, want the full experience? Once you give us the green light, your piece will be ready to pick up in 6 to 8 weeks. So don’t gamble with deadlines and book your appointment at least two months ahead (three, if you like to play it safe). Shopping via the webshop? The same 6 to 8 week production time applies, unless stated otherwise.
Got a ring at home that already fits the right finger? Perfect. Your secret weapon. Measure its inner diameter with a caliper (gold standard) or a ruler (close enough, but slightly less precise). For the full how-to, click here. Prefer to leave the measuring to us? We’re happy to check your size during your appointment. Planning a surprise for a lucky someone? Secretly borrow a ring that fits them and bring it along. Mission Impossible, but make it jewellery. One small detail: always measure the finger, and the hand, the ring will actually be worn on. Engagement and wedding rings traditionally live on the left-hand ring finger, which may not be the same size as its counterpart on the right. Fingers can also swell a little in summer and shrink back in winter. When in doubt, size up rather than squeeze.
Absolutely! Got old gold gathering dust in a drawer? Bring it along to your appointment. We’ll weigh and test it, then see what kind of magic we can make happen. Got gemstones too? Bring those along as well. We can often give them a new starring role, but gemstones can be a little dramatic: in rare cases, a stone may crack or break during setting. So, reusing your own gemstones is always at your own risk.
They say an engagement ring should cost two months’ salary. We say: forget the maths. It’s a myth anyway – and thankfully, love isn’t measured in paychecks. The gesture and the story behind your ring matter far more than the number on the price tag. The price mainly comes down to your choice of gemstone: type, size and a few other sparkly details. Yes, you can sleep with it. No, you can't run it over with your 4x4 Hummer. Your Jolien Mees jewel comes with a complimentary first cleaning within its first year. After that, we recommend making an appointment once a year for a little check-up. A bit of TLC goes a long way. Want to give it some love at home? Warm water, a drop of dish soap and an old, soft toothbrush will do the trick for those hard-to-reach spots. An ultrasonic cleaner works too. A few ways to keep the sparkle sparkling: skip jewellery during sports, heavy-duty work and encounters with harsh chemicals. And when getting ready, save the best for last: skincare, makeup, perfume… then the gold.
No worries: you can have the ring size adjusted once for free, up to 6 months after purchase. Most rings can be resized up to three sizes larger or smaller.
Shit happens. And when it does, we’re happy to help. We do, however, only repair Jolien Mees creations. Whether a repair is covered under warranty depends on the damage, and how it happened.
Each piece comes tucked into a luxurious jewellery box, complete with its certificate. Ready to gift, keep – or treat yourself for a change.
We work with a limited stock so each piece is handmade once you place your order. Good things take time: please allow 6 to 8 weeks. You’ll receive an email when your order is ready to be shipped or picked up at the showroom. Because every piece is made to order, we can’t accept returns. So choose wisely and wear happily.
